How to Develop a Business Through Your Personal Blog

How to Develop a Business Through Your Personal Blog

Blogs are a great way to earn long-term income for your family. Business development includes the creation of a solid network, a larger customer base and more success overall. Today, many business use blogs as an effective means of developing a pipeline. Even personal blogs can help build a business. With a blog, you can announce everything from SEO for your business website to the launch of a new product.

Why Use a Blog?

The bottom line is, blogs are not only everywhere, they aren’t going anywhere. A blog that features quality content gets bumped to the top of search results, especially if those posts provide valuable information to the readers. The more relevant links and non-stuffy keywords included in a blog, the better it does. If you want to develop a business strategy, a personal blog is a great place to start.

Common Blogging Mistakes

To start with, you should be aware of some common mistakes with personal blogs. People who are new to forming a business with the help of their blog automatically look toward advertising and affiliate marketing. While this can be helpful for some, it shouldn’t be the first step you take.

Start your blog without any ad placement and instead become an expert in your field. No matter what your business is, you can make money with the business you’re developing, without having to include ads or affiliate links. The only exception is if monetizing your blog is your main goal.

Another common mistake is including content that is not original. All content should be unique, otherwise the major search engine blacklist your site.

Types of Money-Making Businesses

There are a variety of businesses you can develop with the use of a personal blog. By including informative posts related to your business, you are getting readers interested in what you have to say. They’ll also find out more about you, which often causes your business to gradually increase. The options are endless, but some of the better businesses to combine with a personal blog are offering freelance work like programming or graphic design, having a consulting business, offering tutoring services, selling eBooks or running a membership site.

Tips for Being Successful

Now, it’s time for the tips on business development with your blog. Keep these tips in mind when you start working on your blog.

Perform Keyword Research — Don’t just assume you know what keywords to use in your content that others would be searching for. Take the time to research various keywords for improved SEO.

Help Others With Your Content — When you’re using a personal blog to develop a business, the posts are there to help others. They should be informative and well-written, and open to a wide range of readers.

Update Regularly — Your blog should be updated at least 3 times a week, preferably every day. Keep the posts new and relevant.

Engage With Others — Read comments, write replies to the comments and follow other blogs to become engaged in the blogging community.

  1. Great tips! I especially agree that it’s best to start a blog without the ads and affiliate links. The initial goal must be to develop and foster a readership that perceives the blogger as an authority worth listening to. And towards that end, the blogger must demonstrate trustworthiness and expertise in the topic.

Ads and affiliate links can give a negative impression, that the blogger is unduly self-interested and motivated by commissions and ad revenue rather than offering sound advice and expertise.

And besides, when the site is new it is most likely getting very few visitors, and there’s not really anyone there to click on ads and affiliate links.

Thanks so much for an informative article!

    • Well said, Mildred! My pleasure! Glad you found it informative.

  2. Thanks for the useful article! I’ve a blog of my own, and I’m hoping I can make some money out of it one day. My niches are health and fitness :) I think there is no better self-promotion than commenting on someoneelse’s blogs in order to catch the curiousity of the readers that often visit those blogs. This article gives some really useful tips!

    • Hi Trellum, thanks for the kind words! One of my niches is health, too! I would love to do a blog post swap if you are interested. You can email me at alicia.lawrence89[at]gmail.com I couldn’t agree more!
